What color to wear? Mother of the Bride Dressing

When choosing the right color for a mother of the bride or groom outfit, we always like to say, “you can’t wear white and you can’t wear black.” Everything in between may work but some colors really stand the test of time and what is more important on this important day than knowing that the photo album is going to look as good decades from now as it did on the day of the event.

Traditionally, the mother of the bride would wear a color that complements the overall color scheme of the wedding. However, modern trends have expanded the options for mother of the bride outfits, and there are no set rules for which colors are appropriate.

Neutral tones such as navy, black, gray, or beige are always a classic and timeless choice. Soft pastel colors such as blush, powder blue, or lavender are also popular choices. It is best to avoid wearing white or any shade that could be mistaken for the bride's wedding gown.

Ultimately, the color you choose to wear as the mother of the bride should be a reflection of your personal style, comfort, and confidence on the big day.

There are 3 considerations when choosing the right dress for the wedding. Style (expressed as a silhouette), fabrics (both inside linings and outside textures) and color. Get the color right and everything else is secondary. Get it wrong and you end up living with that decision for a long time. We like to think that there is no more important time to work with a designer that understands color and how to create the perfect blend with a theme than for a wedding. The bride has it easy. The mother of the bride not as much and mother of the groom color is even more of a challenge.

Neutral tones do work well of course as there is less of a chance of color clashing however to choose wisely, all factors must be taken into account. What are the bridesmaids wearing? Does the wedding have a strong color theme? Is the wedding a daytime ceremony are occurring closer to twilight?

Choose wisely and you will be rewarded for years and most importantly, you will feel your best for the occasion. Because What you wear Matters.
